The Grow Your Own Food group is a self-help group trying to use gardens and allotments to grow fruit and vegetables to eat.
We want to encourage and support local people to grow their own food. We have monthly meetings to swap ideas, swap seeds and work on each others gardens. See the programme of visits, meetings and practicals.
Growing our own food is very sustainable - there are no food miles and we can grow without chemical fertilisers or pesticides. We can grow for taste rather than shelf life and eat it within minutes of picking. And it's good fun.
Below are some pictures of Grow Your Own Food meetings, planting in a raised bed and making jam.

The Grow Your Own Food group meets each month or so, usually on the third Thursday of the month, as listed in the programme. Some meetings are practical, where we go outdoors and actually get our hands dirty and do some growing, some are garden visits and some are indoors where we chat about our garden plans and books, seek advice about problems, share seeds, seedlings and produce. Sometimes we invite speakers in.
We also maintain the Community Orchard in Thornbury.
Some of the dates and details are on the diary dates page.
Each monthly meeting, we share tips for what we should be doing in the fruit & veg garden this month. We also share surplus seeds, plants and produce.
